The hymn writer reminds us that for those in Christ; all is well.
"Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, O what a foretaste of glory divine. Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blessed. Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love, This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long."
The idea of assurance is safety, security, confidence, being firmly fixed; to be without care. We can use more of this in our time!
The Prophet Isaiah reminds us that, "The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever" (Isaiah 32:17 KJV).
The formula for peace is rather simple, we must be in Jesus and obey His commands. The key here is to be attached, connected to be "in" Christ. The Key is to Be In!
First, true, lasting, untouchable peace only comes to those who are "in Christ Jesus."
"In Him we were chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him Who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will" (Epheisans 1:11 NIV).
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" (Romans 8:1 KJV).
"And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness" (Romans 8:10 KJV).
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5 NIV).
The promise is only for His!
Secondly, true, lasting, untouchable peace requires obedience for those who are "in Him.
"If you love Me, you will obey what I command" (John 14:15).
"Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey it" (Luke 11:28 NIV).
"And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands" (2 John 1:6a NIV).
"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves" (James 1:22 KJV).
The Promise only for those who are obedient.
"The work of righteousness shall be peace." Isaiah His and Ours!
